Lying low in the valley of the River Cover in the Yorkshire Dales, Holy Trinity Church in Coverham offers a haven for walkers and visitors alike. The building is of thirteenth-century origin and has a calm, light interior.
Colourful Victorian tiles are complemented by radiant nineteenth-century windows commemorating local history. The Coverdale Window is a fine Victorian window dating to 1878, which contains the arms of Miles Coverdale and the See of Exeter in the central light. The flanking lights, including the panel on this card, contain the arms of other local families. Miles Coverdale, Bishop of Exeter, completed the first English translation of the Bible in 1535. According to legend he was born in Coverdale.
Holy Trinity Church was vested into the care of the Churches Conservation Trust in 1987.
